Artist's statement:
Since childhood, I've always loved the idea of being a painter, but since I produced only mediocre crayon renderings depicting various trees, rainbows, rabbits and butterflies, I took different creative turns (dancing, writing, photography, and lots of crafts. After college, I spent several years teaching the deaf, then began a family and later spent more time in the classroom. The first time I ever picked up a paintbrush with an intent other than to change wall colors was at the age of 55 when a friend talked me into taking an oil painting class. Now I'm hooked on the process of using paint to create the images I've loved so much as a very amateur photographer. I love the rich feel of oil paints and the process of capturing, as realistically as possible, the beauty and mood of the images I love.
I credit the enthusiasm, encouragement, and teaching talents of Kathleen Dello Stritto for keeping me painting when I felt like a clumsy beginner, and I've loved the inspiration of her workshops and classes ever since. In addition, I have studied with Elizabeth Locke and Carol Marine. I am a member of TVAA and CAC, and have exhibited my work at the Cedars Studio Tour.
